BRIEF HISTORY OF ROTARY

Gwarinpa, the largest estate in West Africa is located on the southern part of FCT. With more than 10,000 Housing units and with a sizeable chunk of the elites and masses alike, the potential of the estate having a vibrant Rotary Club cannot be over-emphasised.

Consequently, Rotary club of Abuja, Gwarinpa was conceived on the 29th of January 2007 by our parents the rotary club of Wuse central (sponsoring club). Under the standard provisions of rotary constitution and by-laws, rotary club of Gwarinpa was then inaugurated on the 6th of February at loremm suites a venue given by a Rotarian at Wuse central club with the passion to serve.

The membership of the club grew incredibly from thence till now. After the members of the sponsoring club (Wuse central) stopped coming, the membership grew from five to ten, went back and forth. Some days we were fifteen, some days thirty. But finally we got a steady twenty to twenty-five.

On the 12th of May 2009, rotary club of Gwarinpa became a chartered club by rotary international and a proper name given to the club for easy identification by the rotary world: ROTARY CLUB OF ABUJA GWARINPA. With this on the rotary club locator, you get Abuja first and then the club.

The charter certificate of the rotary club of Abuja, Gwarinpa was presented to the club at a ceremony on the 6th of June, 2009 by the immediate past D.G Dele Sampson.
